It’s important to always be prepared for something good to happen. Positive thinking and preparing for success can go a long way. When something great happens, whether big or small, take the time to communicate your thankfulness.

“Let’s pop some champagne!”

If you take a look in my fridge, at all times you’ll find a bottle of champagne tucked in the corner. In fact, I’ve promptly rearranged my fridge shelves at every place I’ve lived so there’s clearance to tuck away that bottle of bubbly. It’s always there in case there’s cause to celebrate.

I love champagne. It has been my favorite special occasion drink as far back as I can remember. It started the night after we (my twin brother and I) had our third birthday.

The story goes…

My parents threw a New Year’s Eve party and stumbled upstairs afterwards. The next morning my mom came downstairs to find my brother and I eating chocolate cake and drinking champagne from the plates and glasses left out after the party.

And so started a family tradition. Birthday cake was served with shot glasses full of champagne in the years to follow. As we grew older, we graduated to flutes and happily watched the bubbles fizz to the top.

Family Traditions

From New Years Eve to every holiday, champagne remained a focus in our family. Christmas brought bubble lights to the tree, and bubbly to our glasses. Birthdays, graduations… any celebration was an excuse to have a little bubbly.

By this point you must think I’m a lush, and all my family does is drink. On the contrary, none of us are really drinkers. One bottle of our favorite sparkling drink was enough for each kid to have about a quarter glass, while the parents filled theirs a bit more. You see: champagne wasn’t the tradition; it was an excuse for us to pause as a family, actively listen to each other, and be thankful for one another.
